Mammal Sightings from w/o 19th Dec 2016

December 28, 2016

Thanks to the following people who sent in Mammal Records this past week.

Geraldine Hogg, Richard Hogg, David Kramer, Judith Knight, Tim Robson, Ken Winder, David Withers,

  • Hedgehog - Linslade, last record of 1 Hedgehog feeding in garden on the 10th December

  •                - Luton, last record in garden on trail camers on the 17th December

  • Squirrel - Maulden, DENR, 2 seen

  •             - Henlow, 1 seen

  • Black Squirrel - Henlow, 1 seen

  • Weasel - Maulden, DENR, 1 dead on path

  • Otter - Bedford, Priory Park, 1 seen several times in different locations

  •         - Henlow, spraint on fishing platform

  • Fox - Luton, on garden trail camera

  • Mole - Maulden DENR, fresh hills

  • Hare - TL14

  • Muntjac Deer - Arlesey, 1 seen

  • Red Deer - Sandy, RSPB Lodge, 1 juvenile seen, photo available

Alan Outen the BNHS 'Rare insects' specialist has reminded me that there are no Bedfordshire records for the Badger flee and Mole flee.  If you find a freshly dead animal of these two species, or any other mammal species, and are prepared to comb the fur into a plastic bag, Alan would be delighted to check the contents. This is an opportunity to make a name for yourself.

There has been a report of Muntjac Deer coursing in the Flitwick area. Please keep your eyes open for this activity and report any information asap.

How about a few mammal photographs, preferably of the records being listed via Adnoto. Either post pictures on the Beds Flora & Fauna Blog as detailed below, or on The Mammal Group site.

When entering a record on Adnoto, please list the nearest town in the 'location box' and not "in garden" etc.

All records are of live animals unless stated.
7 Species for the week and now 30 species for 2016.

Can all records please be submitted via the BNHS Adnoto system, as this adds them to the holding Database and means all the necessary information is submitted.

Thank you and good watching,  David Anderson (Beds Mammal Recorder)
